As a country Portugal has a rich history of famous explorers; the Portuguese empire once stretched across the globe. As media researchers we are constantly asked on behalf of advertisers, to help them navigate their way through uncharted waters. When the Media Research Group had its last overseas conference, the Internet took about half the advertising revenue of television; by the end of 2009 it is predicted to overtake it. The growth of social networking sites, innovation in mobile content and delivery, continued growth in free content via IPTV, means that there are more platforms than ever through which clients can deliver messages.
The media research industry has a two-fold responsibility in the journey of discovery - to continue to measure opportunities in a reliable and consistent manner and to understand how consumers react to messages (both individually and in combination). Our role is more exciting than ever and this is reflected in the breadth and diversity of the papers submitted and accepted for the conference.
