Job Introduction

The BBC are looking to recruit an Audience Research Manager. This role is a 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract to cover maternity leave, and is based in Broadcast Centre, London.

Role Responsibility

This role sits within our ‘Digital Portfolio’ insight team and is instrumental in helping the BBC to maximise the value it delivers through its portfolio of digital services. It will be at the forefront of the BBC’s innovation in this space – and will work on projects that often have a fast turnaround and will require an agile & pragmatic approach.

It contributes to this goal by:

  • Maintaining a regular supply of high quality  insight around emerging trends & media behaviour (e.g. platform trends, device adoption) – and identifying key implications for the BBC
  • Overseeing regular performance analysis for the BBCs digital portfolio: ensuring key stakeholders are well informed on our performance & audience opportunities
  • Leading the ongoing development of our audience metrics & targets – making sure that our Audience Scorecard & KPI's provide a useful decision making framework to guide the development of our digital portfolio
  • Leading ad-hoc insight projects in support of the BBC's digital strategy (e.g. guiding the development of our strategy, informing our overall investment plans)
  • Supporting the development of one of the BBC’s gateway services – bbc.co.uk – with regular performance analysis & ad-hoc user insight to support ongoing product development

The role reports to the Head of Research within the Digital Portfolio insight team, and has two direct reports: 1 Senior Research Executive and 1 Senior Data Analyst.

The Ideal Candidate

What we are looking for:

  • Experience in working with research and digital analytics data
  • Experience in developing and managing senior stakeholder relationships
  • Can successfully manage big and complex projects and experience of budget setting and control.
  • Experience in working in & leading multi-disciplinary insight teams (e.g. bringing together Researcher's & Data Analyst's to tackle shared business challenges)

You will need to be confident in experimenting and developing new research techniques to suit the business challenges you face and you will be open to new approaches and always looking for better ways of doing things. You will quickly establish trusted relationships with key stakeholders, bring people together to work collaboratively and be confident in being provocative.

The softer skills are as important for this role - particularly when it comes to leading the team. As the leader of a new team, you will relish the opportunity to grow, develop and coach those you manage.

As highly sought-after function you will significant demands for your time – and you’ll need to work with the Head of Audience Research to continually prioritise your time to focus on the projects that will have the greatest impact on our audience experience.
