DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Advertising Research & Development (AR&D) team are part of the wider Strategy & Consumer Insight department at Channel 4. Our primary objective is to use insight to support the 4Sales team in providing evidence and support which helps convert revenue across linear, digital and partnership sales.


JOB PURPOSE
The role of the Senior Research Executive is to support the Research Manager in identifying, prioritising and delivering against the requests coming from sales. Using a combination of industry research tools, commissioned research and original thinking the SRE will develop compelling arguments to promote Channel 4 advertising, to media agencies and advertisers.
The role requires both creativity and analytical ability, and includes tasks such as designing research, writing reports and the creation and delivery of presentations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use industry research tools (BARB, TGI, AdDynamix, IPA Touchpoints etc.) to demonstrate the value of wider advertising with Channel 4 Sales.
  • Commission and manage original research (quant and qual) to enhance Channel 4’s advertising sales proposition. This could include: research into key audience groups; understanding emerging trends, behaviours and technologies; the development of new advertising formats and trading models; wider media industry think-piece projects.
  • Initiate and deliver of proactive insight using internal communities and available resources to support key cultural moments for advertisers across the year.
  • Co-manage Channel 4’s youth qual community 4Youth, including working with the research agency to script surveys; writing and presenting research reports; ensuring community engagement is high; member recruitment.
  • Work with the advertising sales teams to produce and deliver presentations which promote Channel 4 to media agencies and clients.
  • Liaise with other members of AR&D on all relevant aspects of the role to ensure shared understanding of findings.
  • Brief, commission, and project manage research agencies to conduct advertising effectiveness projects for 4Sales linear, digital and social propositions
  • Support the team with, and potentially lead on, larger insight projects throughout the year to present to agencies and brands across the UK. For examples of these types of projects, see the insight section of the 4Sales website.


ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Experience using viewing and behavioural data to construct commercial arguments
  • Advanced IT skills, especially in Excel and PowerPoint
  • A strong understanding of the UK media landscape, consumer trends and technology.
  • Advanced use of industry research systems e.g. TechEdge, AdDynamix, TGI, Touchpoints
  • Experience of designing and managing research studies, both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Excellent organisational skills – able to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Data manipulation skills
  • A passion for Channel 4 and TV in general
