This is an exciting role within the Data & Insights team, supporting the production of BBC Studios content and its onward sales & distribution around the world. This will be achieved by understanding and communicating changing viewing habits across the globe, by informing the development of titles at any given point across the full content lifecycle, by reporting back on title performance and helping BBC Studios sell such content around the globe.

We work closely with all parts of the BBC Studios business: production, content marketing & customer engagement, consumer product and licensing, digital consumer engagement, sales & distribution.  Work will be undertaken in close collaboration with other areas of Insight across BBC Studios including other members of the Data & Insights team, regional researchers and BBC Group Audiences teams.

This role will be focused on supporting the Scripted area (Drama, Comedy, Continuing Drama) at BBC Studios and will report into the Insight Manager for Scripted. Our Scripted business has a global portfolio that includes long running favourites such as EastEnders, Ghosts and Silent Witness as well as premium titles such as Good Omens, Sherwood and Time.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Support BBC Studios with audience insights whether in terms of supporting new IP ideas, promoting our content for sales teams or developing existing brands  
  • Deliver regular performance reporting at a programme and genre level which impacts on decision making at all levels of the business, from the strategic to the tactical. Incorporating wider market context and digital data where appropriate.
  • Use data and insight in a creative way to highlight issues and potential solutions to decision makers and creative stakeholders.
  • Work across a range of qualitative and quantitative research projects and be solely or jointly responsible for these projects as required. This includes capturing stakeholder requirements, project management and maximizing dissemination of the research
  • Be an expert on our analytic tools (e.g. Techedge, Glance/Mediametrie, Ampere)
  • Create and nurture relationships with Production, Marketing and Content Leads, under the mentoring and coaching of the Insights Manager.
  • Keep track of wider industry trends and emerging competitors articulate how and why these might affect BBC Studios business.Act as an advocate and destination of knowledge for all insight work.
  • Deliver performance measurement and reporting for your stakeholders to inform decision making at all levels of the business from the strategic to the tactical.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of market and audience research techniques.
  • Good familiarity with appropriate applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Tableau
  • Experience using TechEdge (or other global TV ratings software)
  • Experience in conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research projects including questionnaire design – and delivering content focused actionable audience insight
  • Experience building relationships with key stakeholders and with colleagues
  • Record of developing and using audience/consumer insights and communicating compelling stories in a relevant, creative and engaging manner.
  • Record of working on/leading projects which have had a demonstrable impact on an organisation.
  • Good quantitative analytical skills, particularly working creatively with existing data sources/large data sets.
  • Able to evaluate ideas and information, select relevant data, identify key trends, issues and solutions.
  • Able to think ahead in order to establish an efficient and appropriate course of action for self and others. Can prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines and resources.
  • Open to change and keen to seek out new ways of doing things.
  • Connects people, ideas, processes and issues. Shares knowledge, ideas and skills across the organisation.
  • Listens and adapts communication style to the audience being addressed.
  • Aptitude for employing social listening tools to analyse audience generated content, identifying themes and trends using more qualitative approaches.
  • Aptitude for other performance measurement tools including: SVOD measurement (YouGov Signal), Digital tools (Tubular, Social Bakers etc), proactive use of other publicly available tools to narrative and inform insight e.g. Google trends
  • Experience within the Scripted market would be a bonus but not imperative
